Charles E. "Bud" Slagley (January 15, 1933

Bud” Slagley, age 85, of the Ivy Bend community in Stover, passed away Friday, April 6, 2018, at his home. He was born January 15, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, a son of the late Clio and Viola Slagley. On February 14, 1993, in Schererville, Indiana, he was united in marriage to his surviving wife, Nancee Slagley.Bud was a United States Army veteran and served in the Korean Conflict where he was awarded a Purple Heart.He was a conductor for Illinois Central Railroad until his retirement after forty-one years. He also worked a short time filling in as a conductor for Amtrak.Bud was a member of the Versailles Masonic Lodge 320 where he served as past master and recently received his fifty year pin. He was also a member of the Gravois Mills VFW Post 5178 where he served as commander for a year and the American Legion Zack Wheat Post 624 in Sunrise Beach.In addition to his wife, Nancee, he is survived by his step-son, Moe Slown of Stover, Missouri; step-daughter, Lynn Bates and husband David of Lindsborg, Kansas; six other step-children; brother, James Slagley and wife Cindy of Indiana; sister, Nancy Gunn and husband Charles of Portage, Indiana and many other relatives and friends.Masonic services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 12th, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with full military honors to follow under the auspices of the American Legion Zack Wheat Post 624. Entombment will be held in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
